Until just a few days after I sent this newsletter:
I realised my tablet wasn't detecting my pen anymore!
And I realised right when I ran out of buffer for Inktober! I really needed to get it working: if you don't know, I draw on Cintiq screen tablet and, while generally reliable, it's close to 9 years old at this point.
And this time, no amount of turning on or off, plug unplug, or updating was fixing the issue. I got pretty scared!
I could still doodle some ideas, but I got a bit demotivated when I missed one, then two of my Inktober posts. Is my tablet broken for good this time?
β
Until the weekend arrived, and I finally found the issue! It was not the tablet, but one of the adapters I used to connect to the laptop. I didn't had a replacement, but switching them around made it work fine again.
Phew! But now I had a few more days to catch up :')
And for that, I went to work in our art studio for the first time!
I'm renting an art studio with my partner and a friend, and after a long time renovating it's finally a place where we can work in!
β
If I'm being honest, beyond the cosy atmosphere the big appeal of this place for me is that there is no internet, and the service is terrible! It makes it the perfect place to focus π±
Now I finally caught up, and here is actually what I drew for Inktober this week!
β
This month I'm drawing the adventure of the little plant duck and its friend with horns, and I'm having quite a bit of fun with the challenge!
Would you answer?
I have full freedom when it comes to choosing what I want to draw, instead of following keywords; but that makes it challenging to come up with new ideas. In a good way!
The full thing so far!
We passed a third of the challenge already, almost half, and it's sooo satisfying to see the progress day after after day. One doodle at a time!
Speaking of the grid, I forgot to share with you the test print I did at the beginning of the challenge:
β
My goal is to have it printed and cut in A4 after the challenge ends :) But I have a lot more to do before that!
yum
A new way to explore my newsletter π§
Here is a cool quick news!
This Newsletter has been going for quite some times now, in fact we just recently crossed the 100th issue! :D Crazy to think about!
But I was always a bit frustrated by the archive page: I didn't had a lot of control on how it looks beyond filling a template, and practically no way to add new functionalities.
In the background I've spent the last few weeks upgrading and cleaning up my websites; adding more capacities, making it more secure, better load time... nothing visible for you directly, until now at least!
Because since I was at it, I decided to finally bit the bullet and redo this archive page!
β
It looks a lot like the original, on purpose, but it now comes with a few perks:
You can now search the full content of all 100+ newsletters, super handy if you want to know if I addressed a topic or project you're interested in.
More importantly, you can now follow this newsletter via RSS feed! This means that you're no longer forced to search your inbox for my weekly ramble :)
I've got a few request about the feed already, so I'm happy to finally have it! Don't hesitate to subscribe if you have a feed reader !
Okay! Thank you for reading this weekβs episode :) I havenβt made progress on a big illustration this week, but I hope to have some more time before the next one!
In any case you can expect more of my Inktober coming your way π
I hope to see you then! If you like my work and want to support it, feel free to take a look at my art shop!β
And until we meet again,
Take care, - Nighten
